Storm Bringing Snow, Wintry Mix Leads To School Closures, Could Cause Hazardous Travel

A new winter storm system arriving from west to east on Wednesday morning, March 9 has led to numerous school closures and could cause hazardous travel at times during the day into the early evening.

Generally, 1 to 3 inches of snowfall is now projected for much of the region.

Some roads can become slushy and slippery and a few inches can accumulate in grassy areas, on cars and other elevated surfaces, according to AccuWeather.

Generally, 1 to 3 inches of snowfall is expected, with lesser amounts around the coast. (See the first image above.)

A total of 2 to 4 inches is possible farther north and inland, where the changeover to rain will happen later. But since the high temperature will be above freezing for much of the day, most of the accumulation could be on grassy surfaces.

Snow will be followed by a wintry mix and rain Wednesday afternoon through the night.

Skies will gradually clear overnight into Thursday, March 10, which will be mostly sunny with the high temperature rebounding into the mid to upper 40s.

The outlook for Friday, March 11 calls for partly sunny skies with a high in the upper 40s.

More unsettled weather is expected to return overnight Friday into Saturday, March 12.
